Overview:

This job is for someone who has kindness and compassion for the street animals and who can rescue sick & injured street animals across Bangalore city and can provide medical help in a timely manner. As a Driver, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe transportation of animals to and from various locations, as well as responding to emergency rescue calls. You will be responsible for driving our organization’s vehicle while adhering to safety protocols and providing timely assistance in animal rescue operations.

Responsibilities:

Transportation of Animals

Safely drive organization vehicles to transport animals to and from shelters, veterinary clinics, events, and other designated locations.
Ensure the comfort and safety of animals during transportation, including providing necessary care and attention.
Knowledge of alternative routes in case of natural calamities, road construction work, etc.

Emergency Response

Respond promptly to emergency rescue calls involving injured, sick, or distressed animals.
Assess the situation carefully and execute appropriate rescue procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of the animals.

Animal Handling

Handle animals with care and compassion, considering their individual needs and behaviors.
Utilize proper restraint techniques to ensure the safety of both animals and personnel during transportation and rescue operations.
Disposing of contaminated medical waste.

Communication and Coordination

Maintain effective communication with the organization’s dispatch team and other staff members to coordinate transportation and rescue efforts efficiently.
Provide updates on the status of transportation and rescue operations as required.
Maintain a detailed log of all ambulance trips, including departure and arrival times, destinations, reasons for transport, and any pertinent notes or observations, ensuring accurate documentation of each use of the ambulance.

Vehicle Maintenance

Conduct routine inspections of organization vehicles to ensure they are in good working condition.
Report any mechanical issues or maintenance needs promptly to the appropriate personnel.

Adherence to Policies and Regulations

Adhere to all traffic laws, safety regulations, and organizational policies while driving and conducting rescue operations.
Follow established protocols for handling and transporting animals in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Reporting accidents to other enforcement such as police, firefighters, etc.
Performing other related duties as required to support the operation of the animal shelter and the welfare of its residents.

Knowledge of:

Familiarity with typical office protocols, methods, and equipment.
Knowledge of safety protocols and adherence to safe working procedures.
Skill in maintaining precise record-keeping.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in any field.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Required Background, Experience and Skills:

Total 10+ years of experience in animal handling and/or rescue operations preferred.
Completed the ASDC Ambulance Driver module.
Strong compassion for animals and commitment to animal welfare principles.
Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations.
Physical fitness and ability to lift and carry animals as needed.
Previous experience working in an animal shelter or rescue organization is desirable but not required.
