Overview:
You will play a dual role, responsible for overseeing both recruitment efforts and operational functions within the veterinary department. This position involves developing and executing recruitment strategies to attract top veterinary talent, as well as managing day-to-day operations to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
Responsibilities:
- Recruitment Strategy Development- Collaborate with hiring managers and HR team to develop comprehensive recruitment strategies aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
- Provides guidance through partnerships with senior-level leadership to identify and evaluate staffing needs, collaborate, and influence desirable outcomes. Provides feedback to leadership and partners on industry trends and changes within the labour market.
- Stay up to date on recruitment strategies and industry trends by watching webinars and reading veterinary industry articles and reports.
- Candidate Sourcing- Create key relationships to build a pipeline of candidates. Utilize various sourcing methods including online job boards, social media platforms, networking events, and industry partnerships to attract a diverse pool of qualified candidates.
- Candidate Screening, Evaluation, and Assessment- Review resumes, conduct initial phone screens, and assess candidates’ qualifications, experience, and cultural fit for the organization, and conduct assessments.
- Interview Coordination- Schedule and coordinate interviews between candidates and hiring managers, ensuring a smooth and efficient interview process.
- Candidate Relationship Management- Build and maintain strong relationships with candidates throughout the recruitment process, providing timely communication and guidance to ensure a positive candidate experience.
- Offer Negotiation and Onboarding- Extend job offers to selected candidates, negotiate terms of employment as needed, and facilitate the onboarding process to ensure a seamless transition for new hires.
- Data Management and Reporting- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of candidate interactions, recruitment activities, and hiring metrics, and generate regular reports to track recruitment effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
- Performance Monitoring and Reporting- Track recruitment metrics and operational KPIs, generate regular reports to assess performance, identify areas for improvement, and make data-driven recommendations to senior management.
- Compliance and Policy Adherence- Ensure compliance with all relevant employment laws, regulations, and organizational policies and procedures related to recruitment, staffing, and operations.
- Standard Operating Procedures- Ensures all staff and volunteers understand and follow Standard Operating Procedures and support the mission, vision, and values of the organization as set forth by the Board of Directors. Reviews and updates such rules and procedures systematically and as needed.
Performing other related duties as required to support the operation of the animal shelter and the welfare of its residents.
Knowledge of:
- Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite, presentation software, etc.
- Familiarity with typical office protocols, methods, and equipment.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and adherence to safe working procedures.
- Skill in maintaining precise record-keeping.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in veterinary science, animal science, biology, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Certifications in Human Resource management will be an added advantage.
Required Background, Experience and Skills:
- Proven track record of 4+ years in talent acquisition within the veterinary industry, including sourcing, screening, and hiring veterinary professionals across diverse specialties.
- Strong knowledge of recruitment best practices, including sourcing techniques, candidate assessment methods, and employment laws, regulations, and HR processes.
- Extensive experience in developing and implementing strategic recruitment plans to attract top-tier talent in veterinary medicine, including veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support staff.
- Strong understanding of veterinary talent market trends, including emerging roles, skill requirements, and compensation benchmarks.
- Experience in overseeing operational aspects of veterinary practices or clinics, including workflow optimization, resource allocation, and performance management.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing end-to-end recruitment processes, from job requisition creation to onboarding, for both clinical and non-clinical roles in veterinary practices.
- Exceptional organizational and time management abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in applicant tracking systems (ATS) and other recruitment tools and software.
- Adaptability and problem-solving skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
