Overview:

You will be responsible for managing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and transparency in all financial matters. Your role will involve overseeing budgeting, financial reporting, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and grant management to support the shelter’s mission of providing care and support for animals in need.

Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, to provide accurate and timely reporting of the shelter’s financial performance to management and the board of directors.
  • Budget Management- Review and approve all purchase requests. Develop, monitor, and maintain the shelter’s annual operating budget in collaboration with department heads and management. Work alongside management to support the financial side of project planning. Track budget variances, identify areas of concern, and make recommendations for corrective action as needed.
  • Accounts Payable and Receivable- Reviewing and processing vendor invoices with an accurate booking of TDS/GST in the system. Manage accounts payable processes, including invoice processing, vendor payments, and expense reimbursement. Ensure timely and accurate recording of accounts receivable, including donations, and grants.
  • Payroll Processing- Oversee payroll processing and compliance with state, and local regulations. Verify the accuracy of timekeeping records, calculate wages and deductions, and prepare payroll reports for review and approval.
  • Grant Management- Coordinate the financial aspects of grant applications, reporting, and compliance. Work closely with program managers to track grant funds, prepare financial reports, and ensure that grant expenditures align with approved budgets and guidelines.
  • Financial Compliance- Assist in the implementation of new accounting policies, standards, and guidelines. Ensure compliance with relevant Indian accounting standards, tax regulations, and reporting requirements. Stay informed about changes in accounting principles and regulations that may impact the shelter’s financial operations.
  • Financial Analysis- Conduct financial analysis and forecasting to support strategic decision-making and planning. Identify trends, opportunities, and risks affecting the shelter’s financial health and sustainability.
  • Audit Preparation- Experience in managing audits, including internal, external, and regulatory audits, with a focus on compliance and risk management. Coordinate annual financial audits and any other external audits or reviews as required. Prepare audit schedules, provide requested documentation, and support auditors in their inquiries.

Knowledge of:

  • Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office, email, and presentation software.
  • Familiarity with typical office protocols, methods, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and adherence to safe working procedures.
  • Skill in maintaining precise record-keeping.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required; CPA certification preferred.

Required Background, Experience and Skills:

  • Total of 5+ years of experience in accounting or financial management.
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting software and Microsoft Excel; experience with Xero, Zoho accounting, or similar software preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret financial data and identify trends and anomalies.
