Overview:

You will play a crucial role in ensuring the highest standards of medical care for animals under our care. You will work closely with veterinarians, animal caregivers, and other staff to monitor and enhance the quality of medical services provided to animals. Your primary responsibility will be to assess, analyze, and improve the quality of medical care processes, protocols, and outcomes, ultimately contributing to the well-being and welfare of animals in our care.

Responsibilities:

Quality Assessment and Analysis

  • Conduct regular audits and evaluations of medical processes, procedures, and practices to ensure compliance with established standards and guidelines.
  • Analyze medical data, including treatment outcomes, disease prevalence, and veterinary interventions, to identify areas for improvement.

Protocol Development and Implementation

  • Collaborate with veterinary and medical staff to develop and implement standardized protocols for medical treatments, surgeries, and other interventions.
  • Ensure that protocols are evidence-based, up-to-date, and aligned with best practices in veterinary medicine.

Recruitment

  • Tasked with leveraging expertise to aid in the recruitment process, including assessing candidate qualifications, conducting interviews, and providing input on hiring decisions to build a skilled and cohesive veterinary team.

Training and Education

  • Provide training and education to veterinary and animal care staff on medical protocols, procedures, and best practices.
  • Develop training materials and resources to support ongoing staff development in medical care.

Quality Improvement Initiatives

  • Lead or participate in quality improvement projects aimed at enhancing medical care processes and outcomes for animals.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of quality improvement initiatives and adjust strategies as needed.

Data Management and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of medical interventions, treatments, and outcomes for individual animals.
  • Generate reports on key performance indicators related to medical care quality, presenting findings to relevant board of directors.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including veterinarians, animal behaviorists, and administrative staff, to ensure integrated and holistic care for animals.
  • Communicate effectively with board of directors and external partners to share findings, solicit feedback, and promote continuous improvement in medical care.

Compliance and Regulatory Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards governing animal welfare and veterinary practice.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends, developments, and regulations in the field of veterinary medicine and animal welfare.

Knowledge of:

  • Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite, email, and presentation software.
  • Familiarity with typical office protocols, methods, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and adherence to safe working procedures.
  • Skill in maintaining precise record-keeping.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in veterinary science, animal science, biology, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certification or training in quality management, process improvement, or related areas is desirable.

Required Background, Experience and Skills:

  • Total of 6+ years of experience working in a veterinary clinic or hospital is highly preferred.
  • Proven track record of 5+ years in healthcare quality management or assurance, with a focus on medical data analysis and interpretation.
  • Demonstrated experience of 5+ years in conducting audits, assessments, and evaluations of medical practices, procedures, and documentation.
  • 5+ years of experience with statistical analysis tools and methodologies for assessing medical outcomes and quality indicators.
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise in electronic health records (EHR) systems, with at least 5 years of experience in utilizing EHR data for quality improvement initiatives.
  • 4+ years of experience in developing and implementing quality improvement programs and initiatives within healthcare organizations, focusing on animal safety, clinical effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, veterinary procedures, and animal physiology.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and identify trends.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Prefer at least 24 months of continuous experience on healthcare accounts projects.
  • Exhibit a desire to help others and remain composed and professional during peak periods and stressful situations.
  • Previous experience working in veterinary hospital is desirable but not required.
  • Previous experience as a Medical Quality Analyst or a similar role is a must.
