Overview:

We are seeking a diligent and experienced Housekeeping Supervisor to oversee the cleanliness and maintenance of our animal shelter facilities. The Housekeeping Supervisor will play a critical role in ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for the animals in our care, as well as for staff, volunteers, and visitors. This role requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and a passion for animal welfare.

Responsibilities:

Supervision and Training

  • Supervise housekeeping staff, including assigning tasks, providing training, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Ensure that all housekeeping duties are performed efficiently and according to established standards and protocols; update the organization system daily.
  • Monitor staff performance and provide feedback to maintain high cleanliness standards.

Facility Maintenance

  • Oversee the cleaning and maintenance of all animal housing areas, including cages, kennels, and communal spaces.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify maintenance needs, such as repairs, painting, or equipment replacement.
  • Coordinate with maintenance staff or contractors to address facility repairs and improvements as needed.
  • Report suspicious activity.
  • Ensure all operational procedures, Lost and Found procedures are followed through.

Sanitization and Disinfection

  • Develop and implement cleaning schedules and protocols to ensure thorough sanitization and disinfection of animal housing areas, equipment, and communal spaces.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and guidelines related to sanitation and disinfection practices.

Inventory Management

  • Maintain adequate supplies of cleaning products, equipment, and other housekeeping supplies.
  • Monitor inventory levels, place orders for replenishment, and track expenses within budgetary constraints.

Quality Assurance

  • Conduct regular inspections of cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout the facility.
  • Address any deficiencies or issues promptly, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements related to cleanliness and sanitation.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Communicate effectively with shelter management, veterinary staff, and other departments to coordinate housekeeping activities and address any facility-related concerns.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure seamless operations and a positive environment for animals, staff, and visitors.
  • Performing other related duties as required to support the operation of the animal shelter and the welfare of its residents.

Knowledge of:

  • Proficiency in computer skills, including word processing, email, and presentation software.
  • Familiarity with typical office protocols, methods, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and adherence to safe working procedures.
  • Skill in maintaining precise record-keeping.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Additional certification or training in housekeeping or facility management is advantageous.

Required Background, Experience and Skills:

  • Total 5+ years of experience in housekeeping or janitorial roles.
  • 3+ years of experience in a supervisory or leadership position.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a team effectively.
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques, sanitation practices, and safety protocols.
  • Understanding of animal welfare principles and a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment for shelter animals.
  • Previous experience working in an animal shelter or rescue organization is desirable but not required.
